All Together Now

Andy Wu

My work focuses on the deviation from daily routine and the abstraction of normal everyday life. People follow routine which gives our lives a sense of cohesion and structure, I have a routine which keeps me sane—making abstract drawings with MSPaint. When I make something abstract it is a mirror of my belief, a belief that a little disruption is needed every once in a while, a different point of view as opposed to the same old sights and sounds we experience day after day. I tend to take what is real, and I will bend it until the shape is physically unrecognizable.Old tools and programs are something I enjoy exploring, as I believe there’s always something new to be found within them.

This piece is a live Zoom tutorial series where I guide people in making abstract paintings, where others are free to follow my lead and add their own touches. My practice of making these drawings in this year of 2020 is the basis for All Together Now. The phrase and action represents how we are all together even though we’re miles apart on our devices using the feature of our current predicament of COVID.

Zoom is the collective experience of software interface and digital community of 2020, just as MSPaint is a shared memory among early users of the internet , we are all together in painting.

Live performances (MSPaint tutorials) are scheduled for the Gallery Walkthrough on December 4, 2020 at 6:45pm - 7:00pm at this Zoom Link

If participating, use this online version of MSPaint online if you don’t have it installed: MS Paint

Once you complete your drawings, upload to the Zoom chat or add to this Google Drive Folder., for a live tutorial performance
